[Dec 18th] – Dexter, Snow, Kenan & Kel…etc

Friday morning… 5:33am is what the lil windows task bar clock is telling me right about now.

I’m awake because; a) It’s school holidays (4 weeks off university) and b) there was WAYYY too much entertainment happening for me to want to hibernate.  I point most of the blame on Dexter Morgan …see I’ve followed the show “Dexter” all the way, love it, in fact I could quite possibly say it is the best TV drama series I’ve EVER watched, Seasons 1, 2 and 3 were great…however…for no specified reason (other than maybe just not getting round to it) I didn’t follow Season 4 week by week when it aired recently…although after hearing a load of people say how “must watch” season 4 was and how good the finale is…I’ve decided to speed up my catch up process and get on it, so to speak.

Anyway, I’m currently upto episode 5 and loving it so far…it’s kept itself busy, has various ongoing mini-plots as well as 1 very interesting main story, and I’ve basically spent the early hours of this Friday morning bouncing between eating, playing video games, and watching Dexter…just went to get myself a cup of tea and not quite sure how but I opened up my blog window and figured I’d show some Dexter love…as well as maybe just type down some other things on my mind now and recently.
So…yeah, Dexter, awesome show.  I definitely recommend it!  I’ve already pushed it on some friends already whom are now massively into it after giving it a try, and it’s hard to not like it to be honest….it’s a show about a man who works within the miami police, had something very disturbing happen when he was very young, and has grown up to be a serial killer, HOWEVER!…he ONLY kills people whom are criminals who’ve taken lives and possibly will do again. …I REALLY hope I’m selling it as interesting because seriously, the show owns…I watch a number of great tv shows (well…great to me, as everyone has there own opinions), but I never find myself giving them a massive shout out in my blogs…but this last paragraph is a straight up shout out/ preach to anyone who may be reading to get on the Dexter wagon.

Right, moving on…  SNOW! …it started snowing here in “P-town” (Preston) on Thursday, I was walking back from uni.  Where I was applying for another bit of emergency loan money because of how terribly poor I am at the moment thanks to the continuing delays and issues Student Finance are dragging me through.  I’m sure I’ve ranted enough about that though, so back onto SNOW!…I love snow, it makes me smile to see it snowing outside, and no matter how cold or wet it can make me…that doesnt matter because I’m too much of a kid at heart and just love the stuff.  It’s not been anything major at the moment in terms of snow downfall, but according to a weather site I curiously took a look at earlier it says that next week there should hopefully be some heavy snow here…which…may hopefully mean I get to go sledding :D .  However…it will be like the last time I went sledding (about 3 years ago), in which rather than just mundanely going down a hill, me and (usually) my friend Brad will no doubt hunt down some very steep hills we know of, and spice things up with building some epic ramps to give us some air time.  Taking something simple, and making it into a somewhat extreme sport :) …it’s the kind of fun I live for.  Plus the whole building a ramp out of snow thing…that usually takes a good hour (at least) to make and then finally having it give you that exhilarating lift of airtime it all adds to a great day out…knowing you worked hard on something fun with a friend, and got to really enjoy the fruits of your labour.  I want that sensation again :) .

Managed to find a clip of some snow fun from 2006 on my hard drive, so I’ve added that below :) …although this isn’t quite AS extreme as some of the good drops and jumps that I mentioned in the blog post above, but if I do manage to have some epic snow fun anytime soon then I’ll definitely be more “YouTube-aware” during the occasion ^_^.

Snow fun 2006 from Kev Mitchell on Vimeo.

…speaking of YouTube though, I’m definitely gonna have to start putting in some video editing hours in to piece together a load of the dumb footage and clips I’ve been meaning to put on the internet for a while.  So expect more of that soon.

I’ve just remembered also that due to the fact I didn’t blog for about a month during November I didn’t get to mention the fact I crammed in a load of movies, thanks in part to “Sky Player”.  Sky Player is like a web based streaming program that allows you to watch Sky channels and stream stuff (providing your a sky customer), and seeing as my parents have a decent sky package here, I just had to get the sky card number off the box, enter in the details, and thanks to the XBOX 360 adding Sky Player support to it’s list features, I’m able to watch a few select sky channels via my xbox 360, but best of all…there are literally about a 1,000 (at least) movies that are online and able for streaming (with new stuff being added).  Thanks to this I’ve in the past 5 weeks watched:

  • Home Alone
  • Home Alone 2 (forgot a young Rob Schneider was in this)
  • Airplane! (never gets old)
  • Brewster’s Millions (never watched this before until recently…loved it, although Richard Pryor and John Candy HAD to = good)
  • Be Kind Rewind
  • Hitman (hadn’t seen this until recently…although it wasn’t amazing, it was still a fairly decent adaptation imo)
  • Funny People (great!)
  • Demolition Man (never seen this until recently either, pretty cool old school action flick, and lol @ the fact it was made in 1993 but they said in the future Arnie was president and was voted in due to how popular he was…kind of similar to real life for Mr Governator)
  • Gone in 60 seconds (not watched this in years…so it was awesome to re-watch).
  • Yes Man (saw it earlier this year, but love it…and was still great to re-watch)
  • The Wrestler (see above comment)
  • Big Lebowski (had this for a while, but only watched it recently….loved it).

I’m probably forgetting others…but you get the idea…

Oh and I have to mention my recent trip down memory lane in regards to Kenan & Kel :D
Re-watching Kenan & Kel was awesome, and not just because it was nostalgic, but because the show still holds up today, and I just have to mention the fact that on Twitter “Kel Mitchell” (who plays Kel Kimble in the show) responded to a message I directed his way regarding the fact that Kenan & Kel was huge in the UK (it’s under my favourite tweets tab on twitter…as it’s something to cherish when a childhood idol even in the smallest of ways acknowledges you, hehe).  I’ve also in the past week started watching Smart Guy from the start as well, and watching things like Kenan & Kel and Smart Guy has made me realise that quite a few of the shows I watched as a teenager revolved around black families…for instance:

Kenan & Kel
Smart Guy
Sister Sister
My Wife & Kids
Moesha
The Wayans Brothers
One on One
Malcolm & Eddie
The Parkers

I’m probably forgetting 1 or 2 others maybe, and I know that list isn’t huge, but considering “whites” are the majority in the USA and UK it’s certainly something cool to see that blacks were getting a lot of good screen time (for me at least) now I’m not saying white people can’t make good TV, but definitely in the 90′s blacks reigned supreme in the live action department on the tv channels aimed at kids/ teens/ young adults.  Obviously the rest of my Nickeloden and Disney Channel watching time was focused on good ol wacky cartoons and such…and don’t get my started on these days…it all seems to be pop, music based shizzle, and the only thing I’ve liked that has flourished in kids tv in the past 5 years or so is Spongebob Squarepants, although I’ve just checked up on that and it seems Spongebob started in 1999 (although I’m sure Spongebob didn’t get popular in the UK until at least after I’d left high school (in 2002).

and wow…looking at my lil windows clock it’s getting close to 7am, spent the last 90mins writing this blog, trimming and uploading that snow video, and getting distracted by wikipedia articles on classic nickelodeon shows and such, so…because of the distractions, and the fact I’m at 1738 words at the moment, I’m gonna cut this blog off now.  I hope as reading material it flowed ok, as like I said…wikipedia distractions and such mean I haven’t really continuously written this blog, plus the fact I have been up all night and might be WAY more tired than I’m letting myself believe, so I’m off…too unpause the current episode of Dexter that I have paused, and then I think I’ll have a nap (which may well become a full on sleep).

Adios Amigo’s and expect me to spam more spammings on the internet soon (and by that I mean blogging and youtubing and such, so if your a fan of my shiz, then your in for a christmas bonus, heh :p)

Peace
