World Cup/ Bachelor Party/…etc! [13 July]

In terms of my own expectations for blogging.  I’m behind.
I’m long overdue a new post.  Same goes for my video game blog (Currently Playing) too.

I’ll get on with it though, eh.

This will be a bit of a speed run blog too.  As in I’m going to try and get through it a.s.a.p.  No background entertainment TV or switching over to twitter for distraction, as I have some Potato Wedges and a Pizza in the oven, and I want this post ONLINE! before those guys are oven baked.

First up.  I turned 24 on June 30th.  Yahoo, to that.  Age doesn’t bother me.  Sure I’m getting older on paper, but in my head I still remain the same colourful imaginative immaturish guy that I’ve always been (in my head).

Although that’s partly a lie, as things aren’t always colourful in there…in fact recently I’ve been on something like a 10 day bad dream streak.  Some days I’m about to die, some days I’m in deep jail time like trouble, or at the least things are just going really bad for me.  I don’t think I’ve ever had a notable streak of bad dreams before.  Plus these aren’t recurring dreams either, it’s something new every night.

Speaking of night.  It’s 00:23am here right now, and my sleeping pattern was sacrificed this weekend in order for me to watch “EVO 2010” live (via stream) online.  Evo is the biggest annual fighting games tournament on the calendar.  It’s run by some amazing people, it’s an amazing gathering of fans of Capcom beat em ups (as well as others), and the crowd it gathers are amazing.  GET HYPE!!
Might need to do some long staying up if possible to try and get my sleeping pattern back to something decent, as today I woke up at 6pm (after going to bed at like 9am).

Moving back to my birthday though.  Things were quiet, but good.  Didn’t do anything major in order to celebrate it, but I got some nice gifts, and had a good day.  My ladypal surprised me from afar (as she’s in the USA over the summer) by having a huge “Mario” cake delivered too me.  Which was DELICIOUS!!

Cake of Win

Also, it’s always weird to read certain birthday cards too.  Like how my parents (whom like I always get the impression are disappointed with me, or something of that nature) got me a card that said something along the lines of: “you are so great that if you wasn’t our son we’d try to adopt you”.  It’s so out of character for them to say something like that, to me at least, but still over analysing cards aside.  Great day.

2 Gifts of Win!

A few days after my birthday it was my homeboy Peter’s Bachelor Party/ Stag Do.  We all went to “Haydock” (horse race track) to drink and gamble.  Then came back to Preston to hit up the city clubs after that.
It was the first time I’d ever been to one of these gambling happy race track places, but it was a good laugh.  Dressing up smart, drinking all day, seeing Pete literally get whipped, good times!

Pete's current Facebook profile pic.

Although i’m gutted I didn’t get to meet boxer Ricky Hatton like Pete and some of the others there did (as i wasn’t with them at the time they bumped into him).  Wanted to ask him about his involvement with WWE earlier this year and how much creative control he actually had with that.  Yeah…bet that question would’ve caught him off guard.

It’s just under 2 weeks now till Pete’s wedding, and as I’m his best man (another first for me), I need to get cracking on some sort of short wedding speech thing.  It’s on my “to-do list” this week.

I guess I’ll have more time on my hands during the weeks now that the World Cup is over.  I was loving that whilst it was on.  I don’t really follow Football as much these days, but every 4 years when the World Cup rolls around I dive in deep.  I love international football, especially when every continent in the world is there to represent.  It was awesome seeing some underdogs cause upsets, and seeing some players really make a name for themselves and become break out stars whilst the whole world was watching.  When it got down to the final yesterday I was personally rooting for Holland to win.  As I feel Spain are a bit over-hyped,  it was a very tight game though, and Spain have won 2 major trophies in 2 years now, so congratulations to them on that.  …now roll on Brasil 2014!! :D

Torres didn't dive here, he was Gief'd!

If you’re reading this blog in facebook, you won’t see the above image properly.  Click Here

Anyway, it’s not long till my food will be heatified, so I best wrap this blog up.  Expect more here and on Currently Playing in the next days/ weeks though.  Fo’ Sho!

Tis the 27th of June

Right-e-o.  Time for another blog update on all things etc & stuff.

Just took an anti-hayfever pill.  Hopefully that will stop the pollen in the air from inputting the cheat codes to make my eyes infinitely itch as well as giving my nose a blackbelt in sneezing.  It’s supposed to be a high ‘RED ALERT’ pollen count for today and tomorrow.
Being attacked by hayfever is SOOO annoying.  It’s a joke of an allergy, yet it can totally put you out of service when it hits hard.

I’m super dooper loving the current Fifa World Cup 2010 South Africa.  Like I said in a previous blog, generally I’m not that much of a follower of Football, but for international tournaments (especially the World Cup) I get super glued too it.  I just love the Worlds greatest gathering together to settle things via a great sport.
There have been some shocking surprise results, some great matches, and a great atmosphere.  It’s a shame it’s over half way over now, but I’ll be cherishing whats left through the knock-out stages to the final.

Had some social fun times to speak of this week too (which has been a rare treat for me as of late, with my recent broke-ness).  Earlier this week I headed over to some of my friends (from Uni), watched some World Cup, and had some good laughs.  Good times!

Then Friday night my friend Sam (from Liverpool) came up, and along with my local friend Drew, we played “winner stays on” at Super Street Fighter IV from about 8pm to nearly 3am.  Sounds insane when you think how long we sat there gaming it up, but with such a great game and some good competition the hours just fly by.  Last night I was at my friends Drew’s, watched USA vs Ghana last night, had Domino’s for eats, and then played a few more hours of Super Street Fighter IV.

It’s been pretty damn hot here in England recently too (hot for England anyway).  It’s been quite a problemo for myself, because as you may know from some of my YouTube videos, or previous blogs…I have a very small room here at my parents place.  I’ve packed in mucho technology though, with my big screen, surround sound, games consoles, etc…  Also the houses boiler is in a cupboard in the back of my room too, so because I can’t really be preventing access to that I have my TV by my window.  Now…collectively quite a lot of heat comes from my TV and any cool air that may come in from the outside goes through that heat, so my room doesnt seem to vent too well.

Snapshot of my room

I did used to have a good sized desktop fan that I had by the couch at my old place, but in moving, and storing some stuff in my Grandpa Toms garage, some son of a bitch (presumably my uncle Graham) has taken my fan without consent, and due to my recent broke-ness I’ve had no money to buy a new fan.  However, I do have this tiny little USB fan working it’s ass off for me, it does very little to cool the room down, but I’m thankful that it tries.

My Usb fan

So yeah, as the blog title says.  Today is June 27th.

Not tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow… but the day after the day after tomorrow will be the 30th of June.  Which will be my 24th birthday (and Mike Tyson’s 44th).  I’m not doing anything special for it (as far as I know).  I’ve kind of been out of the social loop with a bunch of my friends recently, due to money, (not me being anti-social or being a square).  Plus I don’t really feel like having some cliché night out and potentially wasting a bunch of money on alcohol, and starting 24 off with a hangover.

Hopefully I’ll get some cash or vouchers off a few family members, enabling me to perhaps purchase a few video games to fill the free hours at home over summer, I need to send some stuff on my parents tax details to student finance that they’ve requested, so there’s small hope that eventually I’ll get some money off them (money I should’ve technically been receiving from September 09 onwards), so if I got that that would be awesome and would allow me to make more of my summer, but I won’t hold my breathe for that.

Anyway, on the mention of money I’m going to go spend the last of the money I currently have (£2.50) on the 2 bottles for 1 offer a shop near me has on 2 litre bottles of Diet Coke.
So yeah…I’m off out.

Finito Blogo

I’ll have another one out soon aimed more generally on the people here.  So that’ll be some views of mine dropped when that comes.

Until then, thanks for reading.

May 25th. Lil bro’s B’day// Heat// …

So it’s been just a few days since my last blog, but I’m at it again.

First up…today my littlest of little bro’s turns 5.  I’ve got him a football/ soccer version of that tetherball/ swingball game…You know were you have 2 people hitting a ball around a pole until someone takes the lead and wraps it around.

My bro's gift, wrapped in Christmas Wrapping Paper ^_^

I was gonna play it safe with a voucher …seeing as he’s 5 and kids get old with toys so easily I figured I’d just leave it to him to get something, but I don’t really like giving people vouchers as it seems like there’s no thought put into the gift.  So giving him something fun to play with in the garden with my other little bro (Jake, 7) they can probably enjoy that in the garden over the summer months.

It was good fun wondering around Toys R Us looking for a gift though.  Getting to see what stuff is making a come back, and what cheap shite is getting passed off as a toy.

Just to update you.  Yo Yo’s seem to be making a comeback, Tamagotchi’s are back…although they’re cheaper than they used to be.

Also…get this!!  I’m sure a number of you have seen “Billy’s Balls” on YouTube.  It’s a special feature in the “Toy Machine Skateboards video: Suffer the Joy”.

Basically the video consists of dudes bouncing ping pong balls into a cup in many stylish and crazy ways.  Obviously the video took ages to film and that those success shots are all edited together to create one cool looking montage of skill throws.

WELL… At Toys R Us there was actually a cup and ball set being sold to try and inspire kids to have a go at doing some cool throws themselves  …The problem being was that it was being sold for about £9.  £9 for a ping pong ball and a plastic cup with a cartoon monster thing painted on it, jeez!

Apparently there was a tv advert recently to use that ball throw thing in it hence why it’s popularity has inspired a kids toy.  I haven’t seen that myself so for me at the time it just seemed random that some company was trying to make money off a video from years ago which without the video…kids wouldn’t actually give a shit about a ping pong ball and a cup.

Before I move on, here are 2 more of those Billy’s Balls clips for you to watch (as lets face it…they’re cool, and it makes me smile and think of times where I’ve spent the better part of my day doing trivial things with my friends for fun).
>>Billy’s Balls 2<<
>>Billy at the Berrics<<

oh…and here’s the advert that I think my sister was talking about >>here<< (that advert is weak though, and the “great deals for popular people” slogan is appalling if you ask me).

I wonder if they make a "24 Today" card?...as my b'day is next month and I <3 Mario

Moving on from my lil bro’s birthday though, but staying within family matters…My little sister finally passed her driving test the other day (4th time lucky).  So she’s driving now, parents have hooked her up with a 2002 corsa (8 year old car that still looks fine).  I was originally given a 93 corsa in like 2004 (11 year old car that had a few rust issues) …I take that as further evidence that my sister has always been a favourite over me :p.  Oh and lets not forget the fact my dad used to nickname my sister “besty” when we were kids…clear implication that she was favoured then.   Anyway, I’m sure she technically owes me a lot of free drives seeing as how I’ve given her a number of lifts over the years when I had a car, but I don’t think I’m in any need to redeem those any time soon.

In fact I’m still STILL hoping to get that money I’m led to believe I will be getting from Student Finance, and then when I do I want to buy a BMX, so I can travel about Preston via bike.  Good excercise, and good fun.  Want!  If Preston had smoother streets I’d just take to skateboarding around more often, but as it stands a lot of the main streets are either unskateable surfaces, or just a bitch to skate (at least on my wheels anyway).

Another family matter I have to raise is the fact that I went into my Grandad’s garage the other day to try and get my desktop fan I had when I lived at my old place.  I put some of my stuff from there in my Grandad’s garage because we didn’t have the room in the garage here…and guess what…one of my uncle’s has gone and stolen my fan.  >:|  The nerve!  Plus it’s been well hot here recently too.  Not to mention the fact I live in like a 2 by 1 metre room that has a lot of electronic activity going on…meaning it gets hot in here.  So for me to go looking for my fan and realise this one object of joy that I had once bought to keep me cool, which I wanted to re-unite with in order to be able to not be tired all the time from this overheating hijinx has now been taken away and I am currently unable to afford a new one…well that just pisses me off >:|.  I hope when I do move again I’m not going to eventually find out more things of mine have been taken (by my own relatives ffs).

—-

Speaking of heat, when I did my last blog the other day I finished it and posted it from my friend Drew’s room.  It was a hot day then too, hence why I was wearing a vest on that day (as seen in my current mood picture from that blog).  I’m not normally the kind of person that’s comfortable going around in a vest.  The items of clothing themselves are very comfortable…and are great for hot as hell days like what we’re experiencing here recently.  The thing is though…when I see vest wearers there are usually 2 extremes.

  1. Those white guys who think they’re tough or want to show off there gym time by wearing a vest.
  2. Those skinny white guys who either look like the skinny guy from “Road Trip” or Cletus from the Simpsons.

Now, I dabble in self conciousness from time to time so I think about that sort of thing when I put a vest on and leave the house, because I don’t want to come across as one of those 2 types of people, I just want to be a dude who’s overdosing on this heat and needs to let his skin breathe a bit more.  So if I’m ever in a vest…don’t judge me!

Getting back to the mention of being at my friend Drew’s house though…like I said, it was a hot day.  I stepped into his room and it was very stuffy, I made a comment on the temperature, and then immediately I noticed he was drinking a cup of tea.  I couldn’t let this sight go unspoken about so I was like:

Me: “dude it’s 400 degrees and you’re drinking a hot cup of tea”
Him: “it cools me down”
Me: “a hot drink cools you down…?”
Him: “yes, it’s refreshing”
Me: “the last thing I want when I’m hot is a hot drink…”

Anyway…2 days later I brought this up, only to be told by someone else that the hot drink to be cool thing is apparently right.  Yet I still fail to see how the hell people get refreshed by a hot drink, and I think these people with this theory need to go reset their “thirst quenching” options to real world standards.   Cold Beverages PPL!!!  A cold soda, or a cold beer in these summer months is a thing of beauty.

Anyway…that’s it for now.  If you want more…there’ll be more in a few more days.

What up dawgs! / 1st blog of July

Hey! hey! Hey!

Another week, another blog…although it’s not like I’m fixated to 1 a week, and in fact, as I’ve said that, I think I’m gonna break this blog down into 2 seperate blogs…mainly because I had video games to speak about and knowing me I’d end up filling half of this blog with video game speak, when it may be more accesible for the “masses” for me to do that one seperate (although I doubt my readership is in the “masses” yet, heh :p).

So….I’ll start off by saying, my 23rd birthday shenanigans, and the tremors that followed my B’day have been cool.  I’ve somehow managed to blow through plenty of cash (as you do), and I’ve shopped my white ass off…both online and offline (offline a.k.a reality, the real world, the place where you speak without tapping keys…yeah you probably remember it).
Anywho…off the top of my head here is the rapsheet for my purchases:

New "Element" Skateboard

New "Element" Skateboard

Skateboard Deck: £66 (+custom griptape pattern)
Skateboard Wheels/ Trucks/ Bearings: £86
DVD’s – Approx £65 (which is awesome as I’ve been getting a lot of classics from Sales, so all the DVD’s I’ve bought have been between £2-£6)
Video Games: Approx £150
Clothes: Approx £85
Some new Converse (Red): £35
Kendal Calling Ticket: £75
…and there’s probably a whole load of “etc” category stuff inbetween.

I REALLY need to cool off spending now though, as I’m running low on cash, I don’t feel TOO guilty on how much I’ve spent as some of it I’ve kinda pre-calculated in my head to come out of my next week(s) wages etc…so, you know, it’s as if some of it’s come out of that rather than me just going nuts with birthday money and such.

I’ve also still got a load of annoying debts to my name that I need to sort out too, probably about £2,500, which isn’t TOO bad, but I just don’t ever work on sorting it, so it’s gotten bad in terms of how threatening the letters and calls too me are.  I need to get some sort of Debt counsellor to work me up a plan or something :\ but the whole idea of it all is just boring, miserable, depressing, and thus…I never open any mail that ISN’T a brown dvd sized package or bigger.  It’s all stuff thats dragged on since when I lived at my old place last year, but the whole transition from having a fun life at my cool pad ….to moving back in to a tiny assed room at my parents, it was all just depressing and got me down majorly…so thus I started spending all my money pretty much on going out, had some amazing times, met amazing people, and that went on from about January to about April, of just pretty much going out 2 -3 times a week.  Then I’d done enough of that to get me back on my feet, and the debts I’d ignored had mounted up, but by this time it was just too much to handle, and I didn’t want to be brought down by that shit, so I’ve just ignored it all with a passion.  Stupid, irresponsible, and no doubt my credit score is more messed up than the Iranian elections (a news story I’ve paid very little attention too, and just name dropped it as it seems fitting to do so :p).

I REALLY need to sort out my student loans, and possibly accomodation too (although I’m not sure if I’ll get that, but it isn’t THE END of the world if I spend my foundation uni year living at my parents for a bit), there’s always the opportunity to move out with a friend somewhere during the upcoming months etc.  I might have to force myself to get onto that tonight or tomorrow actually, just so that another couple of weeks don’t end up flying by without me getting shit done :\.  I’m still really nervous that my real world debt problems might somehow affect me getting my tuition loan (which is pretty much the only loan I NEED to get).

Financial shize aside.  Today I got 2 tickets purchased for “Kendal Calling” which is a music festival in the Lake District of England, happening July31st – August 2nd.  It’s a relatively new festival and nowhere near as popular as the big name festivals we have in the UK, but it should be a good weekend away nontheless.  The music variety seems to be more on the indie side of things for the most part, and personally “indie” isn’t my genre of choice, but they’ve mixed it up well enough, and got several non-indie acts there too, plus the fact I’ll most likely spend a lot of time “un-sober”, so I’m looking forward to it :) .  Oh and just to elaborate on the “bought 2 tickets” thing, behind closed curtains I have been “seeing” a lot of a certain person, for obvious reasons I kept it under wraps (as it’d be very foolish to jinx such a thing by blogging about it in the early days), but yeah things are going well, having a lot of good times together, and majorly enjoying being in each others company, so it’s all good :)   I’ll keep names anomynous for now…but some people will/ or already have connected the dots.  :)

Whilst I’m at the ol’ blog I may as well give some sort of mention to the recent weather we’ve been receiving (although “receiving” sounds too polite…it’s been more like forced rape if you ask me).  Seriously though, the humidity has been unbearable, and I’m already an insomniac as it is…so for the night heat to be as bad as it is…sleep has been weak recently.  I love a good sunny day, but with the humidity it’s just been a bit of an annoyance rather than a blessing from the skies, for the past few days it’s been a lame weather tug of war, with the “Sun” on one end of the rope and “rainstorms” on the other, and the winning side is constantly changing, through the day…I’d be annoyed by the ever changing weather conditions, but after such a brutal humidity-fest, I’m quite happy to welcome some cooler air.  Hope I get some dry time to skate though once my new skateboard is complete :) .

So…at present it’s currently lunch time for me on this “not too bad” monday afternoon (where I’m currently at work), I think I’m going to get Subway for Lunch, which is always a great treat, I can’t express how much I just absolutely love Subway Sandwiches, but I think a lot of people who know me get the jist that I’m a heavy supporter of theres.  I’ll get a 12″ Meatball Marinara.  I may have to do some sort of activity when I get home though, as I’m starting to get that grey cloud over me when I look in the mirror recently…and by that I’m implying the fact that I’m not liking what I see so much.  It’s not like I’ve got way out of shape or anything…I still have energy etc, but I feel like I’ve been over eating a bit in the past 10days or so, whilst simultaneously doing pretty much no excercise (other than day to day stuff…such as the lifting I do sometimes at work, and the 2mile walk home I do on work days).  I really wish I could shake that insecurity within me, but it’s deep rooted :\.

I went to the Trafford Centre this past weekend, not been since last December I believe, sad to see that the “Zavvi” and “Jack Jones” shops are no longer there, I’ve noticed like a 200% increase in “Subway’s” there too I think, although I didn’t have Subway whilst I was there on Sat.  Instead I ate at “Exchange” which is an American-themed Bar & Grill.  This was quite fitting actually as it just so happened to be July 4th (Independence Day) that day.  Obviously me being English I don’t celebrate that day, and apparently as a person of “English” heritage I should be pissed at the fact that USA are celebrating a day of breaking free from there English ties…but whatever, it’s not my battle, I’m just a random person on the planet, born in a random country…I don’t feel like I have to offer patriotism to England (although I will do during sporting competitions and such), and nor do I feel like I have to hate countries “just because”.  I love America, I’ve had some absolutely amazing times there, so much great stuff has come from there, and I just have no problem with the place on the whole…even through the whole “Bush Regime”, I mean…people that thought America was a country full of retards because Bush was president etc…that’s just ignorant stereotyping, loads of people didn’t want Bush as president, and you can’t judge a country on it’s assholes.  I mean, Fuck!  How shit would it be if foreign people where to judge the UK people on it’s chavs?

…ok, wait a second…I’ve gone from talking about the Trafford Centre to talking about stomping down on stereotyping other nations, :\ my bad.
So yeah…I spent a bit of birthday money whilst at the Trafford Centre, and like I said I had a great meal at the “Exchange Bar & Grill”.  I got an “Ultimate Burger” (pictured)

Ultimate Burger

Ultimate Burger

, and washed it down with some cold budweisers, although I wish I’d of been on the ball and gotten one of those cool American style thick milkshakes (on par with the 5$ shake from Pulp Fiction).  Food aside though, bought a couple of other things whilst there, some new converse, some dvd’s, some jeans, and a t-shirt.  For the most part though I think it was a bad time to go, as a lot of shops had basically just been full to the brim of sale items (trying to get rid of there summer line-up), and a lot of it was pretty crappy imo.  Still though, I think with the ammount of Video games and DVD’s I’ve bought recently that I will soon be spending my work money on clothes more, so it’s not like I won’t be clothes shopping again soon :) .

I’m pretty sure I had more to write about but I’m drawing blanks at the moment.  Like I said, I’ve got a seperate entity blog coming on Video Games (yay for some!  nay ¬_¬ for others), but I mean just general stuff I had meant to blog about, so I’ll have to think and make some notes etc…be a little more prepared and on point in the next blog maybe (although I doubt that…I’m never organised :p).
So, yeah…time for the ending credits to roll on this blog.  Thanks for reading, and expect more from me this week :)

Beats of Rage this Saturday too, yay!

[jun29th] – Last blog as a 22year old.

Hey Hey peoples!

I’d say good morning (cause I’ve been awake less than an hour, but it is actually about mid-day now).  Anywho, as the title implies, today will be the last blog I do at age 22…and if you’ve been awake (or alive) less than hour and don’t get what I’m hinting at…well, tomorrow is my birthday, kapeesh. :)

On Saturday I had a sort of birthday gathering out in town…on the one hand it didn’t exactly go to plan, but on the other…it was a hilarious and action packed night of awesome.  The way it didn’t go to plan was the fact that for a number of valid reasons, a lot of people couldn’t come out, then behind those were people that probably either don’t do fancy dress nights out…or! just didn’t give themselves time to prep?  I dunno.  So the night was basically just like 5 people in fancy dress, and the rest of the people that were out/ or met up with me later on were just in there regular day club attire…there loss imo, fancy dress rules!!

Ken from Street Fighter

Ken from Street Fighter

Still though, in some ways it possibly for the best that it didn’t end up being a massive crowd of us out…simply because I ended up talking about Street Fighter etc with so many randoms, and I’ve had my photo taken with many crowds of strangers whom knew who I was (and some who didn’t…I had one person think I was “Daniel San” from the “Karate Kid” lolz :p!).  So yeah…I might not of been the most “obvious to the general public” as to whom I was, but those that knew me totally bummed my referencing! heh.  I own the costume too, so there’ll be more of that, for cert :D .DSC01618

Anyway, basically things started at about 5.30pm unofficially, got dressed, put on a Flight of the Conchords special at mine for a lil bit…then me and my cousin was in town for 6.20 in the Adelphi.  Nobody else was due out till 8pm, so we was just 2 dudes (Ken & Tigger) in the Adelphi (pre-clubbers), it was like after work people, and people who’d come in for a pub dinner.  So I think we left some people with the idea that we just dress up CAUSE WE CAN! rather than for a proper purpose.  Spammed the jukebox there with Michael Jackson (and to my suprise they now have 3! Journey songs on the Adelphi Jukebox!)…and then as more people arrived and had a drink we bailed, and went to Roper for a couple, then eventually to Reflex! then after Reflex…I think at this point I got a Subway, although my timeline of the night is a bit warped.  I believe I had a 12″ Meatball Marinara, and then from there I think it was Warehouse, and then Coda, although it could have been the other way round, I think after the Warehouse stamp of re-entry was acquired and the black “love dubstep/ hate racism” wristbands from Coda were on…it was a case of club hopping, and holy isht! I danced my white ass off, I can only remember random little things of it all, and then after Coda closed, some french fries (with red salt) got ordered…then the 3 of us whom were still out at that time decided to cab to mine for a bit of a quieter after party.
…and that was that.
All in all, great night!  Eager for more fancy dress action though! :)

Tomorrow night I’m off to Chiquito’s for some Mexican food, then off to PR1 …i mean “RUMES” for some good ol’ midweek rock n roll!  Not been to Chiquito’s in about a year, so I’m looking forward to that (as small and regular as the activity may seem), and hitting up “Where’s Mavis” is always generally a decent night with the right people, no doubt I’ll be loaded up on colourful mixed alcoholic beverages again and might not remember the full night properly :p, but I’m sure it’ll be good :)

Not actually sure what to expect for my birthday so far either…normally like a week or so before I’d end up seeing my Nan who’d ask me if I wanted anything specific, and the same would go for my mum too…but up until the text my mum sent me earlier on (a day before), …well it seems like it’s just cash and perhaps some suprises, which works for me.

Moving on though…the other MASSIVE thing to blog about right now…seeing as I haven’t blogged since last Tuesday.  Michael Jackson!  I was in a form of shock when I heard the news last Wednesday night.  I had a pop up from “TwitterFox” (a firefox add-on making following twitter easier), it was actually Ashton Kutcher whom I first heard anything off as I he mentioned that a news story had JUST broke on MJ having had a heart attack, then from there Twitter started exploding with news from everyone, it was a mass internet confusion for about 30mins, where there were sources saying Michael Jackson had died, and others saying he was just in “bad shape” or “in a coma”, but eventually the smoke cleared and it was official, the King of Pop was no longer with us.

I was about to say that MJ was one of the worlds most iconic and recognisable entertainers, but he isn’t restricted to just “entertainers” he was literally one of the most well known people on the planet.  I don’t think for me it has still sunk in yet, I suppose partly because of the fact that he was more a “name” these days than anything.  I mean for obvious reasons (mostly bullying) Michael Jackson stays out of the public eye a lot, and people have tried to bring his name down many a times with many a scandals (whether they’re true or not), but MJ cemented himself as a fucking epic star from the 70′s and was still going strong into the 90′s.  He has SOO many amazing songs, and influenced SOOO many artists.  So even though the man himself is gone, all his achievements will live on within those that grew up within the expansive Michael Jackson era :)

I’m definitely making a comeback on the “video game <3″ front also.  Been playing my 360 quite a lot recently…and no doubt from this week onwards my Wii will start carving it’s way back into regular play.  I got Call of Duty: World at War and Kane & Lynch yesterday (both for 360).  Call of Duty: World at War is a game I meant to get at it’s release last year, but just didn’t get round to it…and as time passed I held off, expecting some price drops, but they just never came :p, but I picked it up pre-owned yesterday for £25.  Whilst out I got (IO Interactive’s) “Kane and Lynch” for £5, which I think could end up being awesome value for money…the game isn’t amazing by any means, but it does remind me a little bit of “Freedom Fighters” (which was also made by IO Interactive).  I really really enjoyed “Freedom Fighters” on PC back when that was new, and have longed for a sequel.  Kane & Lynch definitely isn’t a sequel, but i can see how some have seen it as a sort of spiritual sequel.  It seems like a cool game though, and one I was told to check out by one of the people who worked on the game about 5 months or so ago :) [basically someone from IO interactive bought something off eBay and then I curiously got chatting to him about stuff].  Speaking of IO interactive, I think I’ll re-pick up Hitman: Blood Money on 360 too, played it a lot about 3 years ago, but it’s been ages since I’ve played it…and I can probably get that for under £10 now.

The gaming love doesn’t stop there though, my most played game over the last weekend was the newly released “Fight Night Round 4″.  In a nutshell, the game is awesome.  I had to adjust still to the gameplay, as I skipped out on ‘Round 3′ so I was more used to the arcadier feeling Fight Night Round 2.

Fight Night Round 4

Fight Night Round 4

FN:R4 visually looks great, and plays amazing (imo), not only is the fighting gameplay good in a sort of complex, rock, paper, scissor sense, but you can theoretically fight in many different styles, just like the sport itself.  The main meat of the game is “Legacy Mode” though, and although this is a really cool mode, it doesn’t ease you in as much as you’d perhaps like too, plus there seems to be some emphasis on retiring at as high a rank as possible, so although I’m not sure about that yet…I feel like my Legacy Mode thing might have a deadline too it that I’m not in control of…in which case it adds to the pressure of climbing the ranks as fast as I can, but at the same time I can’t keep fighting as I need to train and improve my stats.  Still…if it remains enjoyable, then playing through that mode more than once will be appealing, which in turn is great because Replay Value is something I appreciate in games :) .  Looking forward to see what EA do for DLC for the game, and the addition of ESPN sport news and sport radio streaming into the main menu’s (only if connected to XBOX LIVE/ PSN) is really cool too.

So!  In short, Fight Night Round 4 is amazing, and without the doubt the best boxing sim to date.  The awesome-ness of the game jump started my motivation into getting round to watching the fairly recent documentary on Mike Tyson’s life (watched it Friday night).  Really good watch imo, shows his side of things on his career, how things got dealt with, problems he had, and generally it’s just a really interesting biographical story on one of sports most colourful competitors, kinda felt a little bit sorry for him at times too, as he seems to be a man living his life with a number of regrets underneath him :\

…also, on the subject of Boxing, I watched “Raging Bull” last night for the first time, and holy shit!  Robert DeNiro has (I didn’t think it was possible) made me respect him even more.

Raging Bull for those not in the know is a boxing movie from 1980 starring Robert DeNiro, it is based on the real life boxer “Jake LaMotta” (whom is in Fight Night Round 4), and it’s basically a film on his life as a boxer and post-boxing, and covers a load of his personal problems and such, the film itself was really cool, but the thing that has me in amaze! is the fact that Robert DeNiro trained his ass off to be in physical shape to play Jake LaMotta, then for the last 30mins of the film he plays Jake in his post-retirement days, and the thing that is amazing is the fact Robert DeNiro put on the weight to play the role, and it’s not like he just gained a few pounds…he gained like 40, and looks like a completely different person, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone do that much for character ever.  It’s quite a sight to see, and just adds to the film, and to DeNiro’s awesomeness.

…Anywho, work is picking up, so thus my blog is being rushed (lame!), the old word count ticker is saying I’m past 1900 at the moment though, so I may as well end things here.  Reckon I’ll hit another blog out on Wednesday or Thursday, so yeah…if you deem my blog worthy of killing time, then I’ll murder some more of your innocent time later this week.

Till then…Adios Amigos :)

Tues 23rd June blºg

Howdy!

Ok, so it’s Tuesday, and guess where I am…?  If you said “work”, then you win!…(now imagine receiving a prize).   Ok so yeah, I’ve been trying to break back into blogging more frequently again, and walaa!  It’s happening.  Even though my blog isn’t fully repaired yet, it’s usable, which will do for the basics of blogging.  Plus I think more people seem to read this thing via facebook these days anyway, so it doesn’t really matter (except to google) that I have a fully fledged prettified blog site.

Mmmkay, so naturally I may as well cover the weekend just gone.  In brief, it was cool!  I milked a tonne of fun out of Friday.  It started out with a trip to the chinese buffet, which owned!  I tried Duck for the first time ever!  (It was good, didn’t change my life like some people said it would >_>, but I’d eat it again).  I managed to chomp down my duck trial plate, and 2 super packed regular plates, as well as 2 trips for dessert.  Naturally I left the building impregnated with a food baby.  Then from there I went out to see “The Hangover” at Odeon [Preston].  The Hangover was better than I expected, and definitely worth a watch if your a fan of say Judd Apatow type movies (even though this one is not a Judd Apatow).

Chinese Buffet :)

Chinese Buffet :)

After the Cinema it was off out to the clubs, wasn’t intending it to be a late one…just out for a couple of drinks, loud music, and perhaps the chance to dance and burn off some of the Chinese Buffet food I’d Pacman’d through ( < • • • • •  Anyway…got into Warehouse just after midnight, was there till about 1.30am, then went to Coda for [DROP], it was a first for me (being at DROP), seem’d cool though, a bit like Beats of Rage (which I love) except perhaps a little bit more chavvy at times, although not too bad, and very much still lovable because I stayed there till 3am (closing) and would definitely go again, afterwards popped into the Old Dog for a few drinks there…talked to a couple of random friendly drunk people whilst there, and then at 4am (Old Dog closing), it was off home…walked home, somehow took us till 5am to get home…then once home, the night didn’t stop, my iTunes library provided the sounds, and it wasn’t till 8am that sleep was on the menu.

Next day…got up about midday, the day was a slow mild one…got some video game time in though, played some Bionic Commando: Rearmed (XBLA), and followed it up with it’s new 2009 full console sequel “Bionic Commando“.  Those whom haven’t played Bionic Commando (the nes original) or! Bionic Commando: Rearmed on XBLA, you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself!  …and by that I mean, download the demo, play it, better yet…BUY IT!  It’s amazing…it’s a 2d action game, with a lot of challenge and it’s just soo soo good! to play.  I have been looking forward to “Bionic Commando (2009)” for a while now, simply because of how good Bionic Commando (nes) and Rearmed (XBLA remake) are, the series is great, and has been left behind by Capcom until it’s recent revival.  Anyway, Bionic Commando (2009) is a decent game, especially for the £17.95 I got it for from Zavvi.co.uk.  I’d say it isn’t a perfect game (it lacks some polish in places) but it is a lot of fun to play…and personally I’m glad the game isn’t sandbox (which is what some criticism at the game has been about).

Ken Outfit

I should in theory have some time over the next few days to get some good hands on time with some games I’ve been meaning to either Start playing or play more of, so I will embrace that.  This weekend will busyify though, Saturday I’ve got plans in motion for a fancy dress night out in Preston which should be cool…fancy dress nights out are always win! :) .  It’s to co-incide with my 23rd birthday, although I’m not 23 till Tuesday 30th.  I’ve bought a fresh new get up for it…I’m going as Ken from the Street Fighter series.  I’ve dropped £40 on a costume (hope it fits :S), and it’s about time too as I’ve had the idea in mind to dress up as “Ken Masters” for ages, simply because I sort of already have the hair part down, and also…I love the Street Fighter series.

There is no theme to Saturdays shenanigans, it’s just a general “fancy dress” party, so people can be as creative as they please.  The plan is to meet up at Adelphi (one of my favourite bars in Preston ^_^), and then end up in Warehouse (with a possible drop into some other bars inbetween).  Possibly ending up in the Old Dog till closing with whomever can last that long also :D .  The fun doesnt end on Sat though (for me at least), as on the day of my actual birthday (30th…a Tuesday), I’m going to go to Chiquitos for a meal (with whichever friends are down for that), and then afterwards hit up “Where’s Mavis” which is a rock night at PR1/ “Rumes”.  Win!

I’m hoping/ expecting my facebook to be drowned in photos next week…cause I know for sure I’ll take a bunch, and no doubt others will too :) .  Not got any gift ideas in mind for my b’day though, and none of my parents/ relatives have done the usual “is there anything you want…?” questioning, so it’s all down to suprises, and cash in hand I guess…which has been then norm in previous years so I’m cool with that ^_^, plus…see my last blog…I already have ideas in place to lose cash to :)

I’ll need to go see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen soon also.  I loved the first one, and can’t wait for the second…I’m not expecting it to be better, as sequels rarely are (except Terminator 2), but more of the same special effects, returning cast (characters), and another sugar coated good vs bad story from hollywood should equal a good film.  :)   …I can’t believe recently I’ve gone from not seeing anything at the cinema for approx 5 months, to having seen like 1 a week for the past couple of weeks, heh.

My love for Diet Coke should be giving me a pay off soon too, as within the UK, there is a loyalty points scheme ongoing called “cokezone”, basically, when you buy a can/ bottle of coke with the cokezone logo on it, you will be able to find a code on that can or bottle, and depending on how much coke you’ve bought, you’ll get points for it.  Can - 1 point, Small bottle – 2points, 2litre bottle – 3 points.  I drink an awful lot of Diet Coke as it is…so even without coke zone I was already enticed into the brand :) …but yeah, since about Nov/ Dec 08 I’ve been entering codes (say about 90% of the time I have them), and I’ve collected enough now (over 250) to get myself a free game from there selection.  I was thinking of getting “EA Sports Active” for Nintendo Wii, which is a cardio workout “game” (although less of a game, more of a workout video/ aide/ fitness application).  However I’ve read a number of good things on the game, so I think it’s worth looking into, ESPECIALLY if it’s free.  I was going to purchase it last night, but just my luck…it’s sold out, although I expect it to come back in stock soon, and if not…there’s a number of other decent games on there for choosing too, although currently it’s just games made by EA (whom are in partnership with cokezone).  It’s awesome when some random little background thing such as collecting loyalty points turns around to be beneficial, I’ve built my GAME reward card up a number of times to the point where I’ve been able to get £20 off a game etc, and last night I pre-ordered Wii Sports Resort (release; late July) and Tiger Woods 2010 with a Wii Motion + add on (out Friday 3rd July) from there website, which nets me double reward points due to them being pre-orders.  Really looking forward to trying out Wii Motion Plus though… EA Grand Slam Tennis on Nintendo Wii supports Wii Motion + and is apparently a great game, so I might be tempted to get that for free via Coke Zone if Ea Sports Active doesn’t show up in stock soon.
…maybe one day my Nectar card will actually build up to be worthy of something decent :\

So…in the intest of not “over-doing-it” with this blog in terms of blabbering on, I’ll come to an end now.  I may get round to doing another blog before my Birthday celebrations start, if not, then sit tight for a “packed full of flavour” edition sometime mid-next week.
As always if you (mrs/ mr hypothetical) read this blog, then thanks for reading, if you have a blog of your own and you know me (or at least know me on facebook at least), then drop me the url, and I’ll chuck it into my “friend blogs” link list on my blog homepage, although that’s not saying too much at the moment what with my site still under repair from the recent malware infection I had :\.
Anyway, once agani thanks for checking out my blog…remember I’m sort of always 24/7 blogging on a micro scale via my twitter, so if you’re on twitter, FOLLOW ME! @kermit1986

  • Grandma’s Boy – Amazing “stoner” film, but also a great comedy in general imo
