Seinfeld. So Awesome.

Seinfeld.

A comedy sitcom revolving mostly around 4 characters (Jerry, George, Kramer, and Elaine).  A show that specialises in turning small aspects of day to day lives and social interactions into amazing and hilarious plots for it’s episodes.  A show that ran for 9 great seasons from 1989 to 1998.  A show that still nets Jerry Seinfeld millions in royalties and such to this day.  A show to whom Larry David also deserves a lot of credit for..

Anyway, enough on trying to sum up the show for now.

Seinfeld first came into my life in the mid to late 90′s.  I caught the show in syndication on Paramount Comedy or some other network we had on our cable service, and saw it several times as a pre-teen/ teen.  The show is definitely not aimed at someone of that age, so naturally it didn’t jump out at me as must-watch TV back then.  However as I grew older I understood more (same goes for any tv shows aimed at adults) so I appreciated the jokes and laughs.  It definitely stood out to me as a cool show, yet perhaps due to its network, its timeslot, or the fact my friends just didn’t get it back in those days meant it was something no one my age would be talking about.  Yet ever since those days I did have it bookmarked as a great show I should properly watch at some point.  Plus one of the first comedians I properly got into was Chris Rock (also in the late 90′s in my early teens), and Chris Rock had stated in several interviews and such that Jerry Seinfeld was someone who he admired, plus he’s mentioned the show [Seinfeld] in a couple of his stand up specials.

Anyway, fast forward to 2009.  Last year I got into “Curb Your Enthusiasm” as I’d heard a couple of people rave about it in forums, and noticed a couple of actors/ actresses whom I’ve IMDB‘d had been on the show, plus it was from HBO who have a great record when it comes to delivering “must-watch-tv”.  It was through watching Curb Your Enthusiasm that I learnt of how Larry David was one of the creative minds and one of the key people to thank for Seinfeld and it’s success.  So I told myself once I was done marathon-ing (over a few months) through the entirety of Curb Your Enthusiasm (up to it’s current finished season) that I would move onto Seinfeld afterwards.

Now…as I came to the end of my watch through of Curb Your Enthusiasm, I started to feel a slight sense of emptiness growing inside me in a “what new show could possibly make me laugh and give me this much enjoyment when I’m done?” kind of way.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 8 coincidentally happens to revolve heavily around a fictional reunion of Seinfeld, so this furthered my desire to watch Seinfeld, and once I was done with Curb I got straight onto it.

Over the past 4 months or so I am now only the “Finale” away from having completed Seinfeld (through Season 1 to Season 9), and once again I feel as though I will struggle to get that same flavour of comedy from a TV show anywhere else.  See you really need to watch Curb Your Enthusiasm or Seinfeld to see how it differs from your average sitcom like say “Friends” and whatever.  Sure enough there are other comedy series I absolutely adore “Father Ted”, “Flight of the Conchords”, “Spaced”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “Big Bang Theory” and others… but Curb, and Seinfeld are in separate incomparable leagues to other shows (in my opinion).  I’m not trying to argue that Curb, and Seinfeld are the best shows there is, but I do rate them very highly, but just on a scale of there own sort of thing.

Anyway.  I just HAD to do a blog that was PRO-Seinfeld, as it is a show I’ll no doubt re-watch many a times over the rest of my life (same goes for Curb Your Enthusiasm).

Now if you’ve read through this blog (yes you, whom is reading this very sentence).  I URGE you to feed any curiosity you may have gotten from this blog post and start watching Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm, if you’re a person, and you live a regular life, then you’ve got many “lolz” in store for you.

Reno 911 / Katt Williams

‘One of the funniest shows you’re probably not watching…’

To sum it up…Reno 911 is basically a spoof of cops, and those reality police shows.  It has a crazy cast, kinda like “Police Academy” had, and it is just one hilarious series.

It is set in Reno, Nevada, which I guess is a sort of redneck type part of America, and basically the whole of Reno’s force are generally a bit slow to be fair, and they pretty much would be the worst cops in existence for the most part, but that’s where a lot of the shows fun comes from.

I came across the series personally when my cousin recommended I watch the movie (which I’ve had on DVD for ages, I’d picked it up cause I’d heard of the show being on after South Park in USA, and the dvd was in a sale), anyway…we watched the film the other night and it was good, good enough to make me look up the series, and the first thing I was reading on message boards etc was that the series was meant to be funnier than the movie.

So…thanks to torrents, I got hold of Season 1.  I’m about half way through it so far, and I think each episode has had to of been funnier than the movie, not that the movie is bad, but I guess it’s just like a number of TV shows that have done movies where although the movie was nice, the series is where the memorable quotes and moments are at… I suppose I am lucky at present to have just got into this, as I’m only about half way or so in Season 1, yet there have been 5 seasons so far (show started in 2003) and there is a sixth season coming out next year.  So I have a new TV show to download and syndicate into my daily watchings or whatever ^_^ (note to self, get into Prison Break and catch up on LOST also).

Anyway, the purpose of this blog was to be one of those rare ‘not about me’ blogs I sometimes do (example).  So I’ll end this part with saying that if you haven’t seen Reno, but have access to downloading (via torrents or whatever), then I’d reccomend you check it out.  Some great characters, great storylines, and just a shit load of humour thats somewhat different to what other shows are giving you.

Reno 911 – Currently with a nice 8.0/10 rating on IMDB (which is a very good score)

On to the next new entertainment figure in my life…Katt Williams.

Katt isn’t technically a whole new thing to me, as I’ve seen his guest cameo in GTA:IV, come across some clips of his stand up on video websites etc, and he’s been in a few eps of “My Wife and Kids”.

I guess somehow though I never thought to check out his stand ups, that was until yesterday.  A few days ago a friend sent me a link to one of his stand ups over msn.
This clip…

Facebookers – use this link: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gWhUqo9Aivs (as embedded videos never show right when my facebook feed pulls my blog off my website to my facebook :p).

I saw that clip and it made me literally “lol”, so I asked the dude who sent it me what it was from but unfortunately he wanted to know that too.  Anyway I did some investigation and by some stroke of luck the first thing I ‘acquired’ of Katt Williams was the stand up this was from, “Pimp Chronicles Pt 1″, a 45min HBO comedy special.  I watched this last night with my friend Mossy, and we both got a real kick out of it.

In recent years I’ve watched more Black American stand ups than anything else, I fkn love Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle is one of the funniest men ever, Richard Pryor is awesome, Eddie Griffin is alright too, and I’ve seen a number of Def Comedy Jams, and other stand ups that aren’t AS great but still funny.

That just said, it seems odd that Katt Williams didn’t set off my radar and alert me to his great-ness.  Soon I will need to watch some of his other stand ups (and I hope they’re as good as what I’ve seen so far), but the guy is great.  It’s just a shame that now I’ve just got into him I read up that he sort of fell to that “celebrities gone crazy” type thing, and has gone and done some weird things in public had a load of rumours started and has now decided to sort of retire and keep a low profile from now on.

Anyway…that’s it for this ‘entertainment focused’ blog.
